Charities

SfE has raised a little under £30,000 for Charities in the last four years through the generosity of its delegates and staff.

Nicaragua

SfE believes all children should have the right to a basic education. `Nicaraguan children don't have this opportunity. In a country devastated by extreme poverty, debt and hurricanes, secondary schooling is a luxury most Nicaraguans cannot afford. Often schools struggle to even put a roof on their buildings and find books for their pupils. Over 80% of the country live in poverty and 40% of children under five are malnourished.

However, it is not all bleak news. Through a variety of ways, SfE sponsors two schools in Nicaragua. Based in Tonala and Puerto Morazan, in the North-West of the country, the money donated by SfE is enabling deprived Nicaraguans to help themselves in ways that, previously, they would not have thought possible.

Thanks to the combined support of SfE and its delegates, we hope to increase the payments to the "Global Perspectives" in order to further fund additional staff and extra resources for these desperately poor schools.

Local charities

As well as raising money for Nicaragua, the staff here at the SfE office also believe that charity begins at home. We like nothing more than donning our casual clothes for work once in awhile or holding a raffle (the best prize so far being win a day off work), or even selling cakes to raise money for charities. Each September we nominate a charity for that year's money to be donated. The past two years it has been The Children's Hospice South West who have been the recipients of our main donation and other charities include Jeans for Genes, Children in need, Comic Relief, National Children's Blind Society and CLIC. To date we have raised and donated £2034.35 with £297.00 in the pot so far for this September's chosen charity, making a grand total of £2331.35 raised to date.
