Synopsis

The role of Pastoral Leader is changing and becoming ever more challenging and demanding. This is particularly true at KS3 where the concerns and expectations of pupils and parents are high. The successful transition from KS2, early identification of underachievers and provision of appropriate support through to KS4 is essential for good behaviour and high levels of achievement. Pastoral Leaders at KS3 have a crucial role to play in leading, managing and supporting a team, monitoring pupil progress, promoting positive behaviour and developing the ethos of the school. Increasingly, they are required to work closely with other agencies. This practical training day of guidance and activities is designed specifically for KS3 Coordinators, Heads of Lower School and Heads of Year at KS3. Against the background of government initiatives, Ofsted expectations and whole school improvement, it will show how to develop the leadership skills and strategies to work effectively with tutor teams, colleagues, parents, pupils and outside agencies.
